Alison Dixon is a stay at home mom in Middletown, Pennsylvania.  Before children, Alison spent 12 years as a television reporter in the Harrisburg, Pa area and won an Emmy Award for her work.  When she's not writing, Alison loves to spend time with her husband and two girls.  She also likes to read and travel.

 
Allynn Riggs grew up steeped in the outdoors by her father, a wildlife biologist, who insisted on active involvement by his children. She writes nonfiction for all ages and has recently ventured into science fiction and fantasy. She’s been published in Falcon Magazine for Kids, and various folk dance publications.

Amanda Hartley began writing for children when she decided not to return to her engineering career after the birth of her son. Her first published work of fiction is a young adult short story that will appear in an anthology due out in the fall of 2008.

Amber Entzminger is a native Californian living in Palm Springs with her husband of six years, her four-year-old son and nine-month-old daughter. Amber graduated from Cal State San Bernardino with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts. She taught preschool for two years and feels that was one of the greatest decisions of her life. She's been writing for publication for about eight months and won the "What Do You Fear Contest" conducted by Crow Toes Quarterly. Her untitled poem is located on their website. She is also a member of the Blue Board and part of a children's writing critique group.

Amy Batty is a stay-at-home mother of three daughters- ages 8, 6 and 1. She is currently a student at the Institute of Children’s Literature and lives with her husband and girls in a suburb of Kansas City. She loves reading, writing, playing golf, and spending time with family and friends.
 
Amy Cook is a mom, an architect and a writer, Amy divides her time between volunteer work, designing buildings and creating fictional worlds for fantastic characters of all kinds.

Amy Hagerty lives in Tiverton, Rhode Island with her husband James, their daughter Claire, and many dogs and cats. She has had poems published in Fandangle and WhittleTykes. She is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

Amy S. Hansen is an award-winning author who writes science for kids. She lives in Maryland with her husband and two sons. Her books include: How Things Work (Publications International 2006), and Bugs to Bugsicles: Insects in the Winter (Boyds Mill Press 2009)

Amy Sullivan is a mother, teacher, and children's author from North Carolina. The poem "Run" is about one of Amy's favorite childhood memories-darting away from the sprinkler that not only seemed to be determined to soak her, but also seemed alive.
 

Andrew Straka is a six-year old first grader from Pennsylvania who likes playing Spiderman, writing stories, and riding his bike, and playing in his clubhouse.


Andy Hueller is well on his way to a language arts teaching license. His current ambitions in life include playing shortstop for the MN Twins, teaching English to middle and high schoolers, finishing two young adult novel manuscripts, and eating pancakes with his fiancée forever. Angelika Lochner is a photojournalist and living history interpreter. She spent several years following the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars around the US, where she developed a love of travel, and a dislike of professional sports. Angela Adams lives in Indianapolis and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.  She is happily married, and a mom to four children, two dogs, and a cat. There are no fairies in the house, but they all continue to hold out hope.

 

Angela Calabrese is a reading specialist in an awesome middle school in upstate New York.  She's on a quest to find each of her students that magical novel that will hook them into becoming lifelong readers.  She learns just as much from her students as they do from her. Anthony Pezzula is a retired former employee of New York State taking up writing in his retirement years. He has had stories published in The Writers Post Journal and the ezines Midnight Times and Fictionville. This is his first children’s story. Anne Renaud is a Canadian, born in Valleyfield, Quebec, and currently living in Westmount. She has translated two picture books for children and has also published over one hundred nonfiction articles and craft projects in Canadian, American, and Australian children's magazines, including YESMag, Cricket, CHIRP, Helix, Faces, Odyssey, and Read. A Bloom of Friendship: The Story of the Canadian Tulip Festival, Anne's first children's book, was dedicated to her uncle who fought in Holland during World War II. It’s up for the Silver Birch Award, the Hackmatack Children's Choice Award, and the 2007 Red Cedar Book Award.

Arlene Evans is a former school nurse who couldn’t find literature for children or teens on this common genetic disorder. Arnot McCallum is the retired Reading/Writing Coordinator with The Essex County Board Of Education. His poem, "Kids" won first prize in the Writer's Digest Magazine in 2005. He's had 8 books published by Primrose Publishing, three Children's Funny Poetry Anthologies,[I'm Not A Brat, The Gorilla Did It, and There's a Dragon In My Wagon]. He also has a chapter book series for young readers titled "The Brats Of Bensen School". Arnot is very active in the schools and libraries of Ontario, Michigan and Florida. Ava Crowley is 9 years old and in fourth grade. She wrote this poem last spring when she was looking forward to summer. Ava likes playing soccer, basketball, and dancing. She also likes to read and hang out with her friends.

 

B. A. Sans lives in North Las Vegas with his wife and son. A teacher by day and writer by eve, he writes stories to delight both children and adults.  He is currently looking for representation for both his unpublished middle grade novels and adult novel.


Barbara Bockman is a former English teacher who loves connecting with children through stories. Her story, “Arctic Danger,” was awarded First Place in the Characters Magazine 2007 Fiction Contest. She has also been a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother. She enjoyes doing crafts and sharing the experience with children. She is also very much into recycling.

Barbara Gurney's fictional writing experience has just begun. After fifteen years of writing and editing a newsletter for a community based organisation she joined the Gosnells Writer's Circle in 2008. Her stories have amused and delighted her family and friends while bringing creative satisfaction to herself. She is now discovering ways to reach a wider audience to fulfil her ambitions.
 
Becky Becker grew up in Upstate New York in a family with seven children. She now lives in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is the mother of two adult children, and works as a Church Administrator. She has written children’s curriculum for a Christian publishing company. In addition to writing, Becky enjoys the medieval arts of illumination and calligraphy.
 

Becky Soup lives in southern Ohio with her husband and three children. She is kept busy with building their house, home schooling the children, and several part-time jobs. Becky has only recently started writing and is currently a student at Institute of Children's Literature.

Beverly Stowe McClure - When Beverly Stowe McClure was a child she hated to read. Even though her eighth-grade teacher sent her poem “Stars” to a high school anthology and it was published, she hated to write. Nevertheless, she attended the university and became a teacher. Catherine A. Winn loved reading, writing, and drawing as a child. She majored in art in college and became an art teacher. Seven years later she was assigned to teach third grade. “This turned out to be the best grade for me.” She used her own stories and artwork to help teach lessons. “But I never tried to publish them.” When she retired a few years ago, Catherine continued to write children’s stories, attend SCBWI conferences, and hone her craft. She now lives in San Antonio with an ornery cat named Tippy Two.  She has published two stories in SFC in 2008; a craft, Sock Seals, was published in Pack-o-Fun in their Literature Liftoff section in January, 2009, and a second craft has been accepted and slated for their July, 2009, issue. “I will always be grateful to Stories for Children for being the first to make my dream of being a writer come true.”


Cathy Witbeck is a writer, an illustrator and a Ukrainian Easter egg instructor.  She is married to a rock hounding family physician, has five kids, two dogs and a gecko. Crystal Crowell is 11 years old. "The Big Stink" is a true story which she wrote for her sixth grade class. Crystal's teacher gave her an A+ and told her to submit it to a magazine. So after hard revising and editing, Crystal sent her story to Stories for Children Magazine for others to enjoy.

Jan Coates lives in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Her first picture book, Rainbows in the Dark, was published by Second Story Press in Toronto (2005) ISBN#1-896764-95-9. It's been translated into Spanish and Braille, with Korean and Portuguese translations pending. Jan has been writing for children for seven years, and works as an English as a Second Language teacher, as well as doing writing workshops with elementary school students.

Janine-Langley Wood was born and grew up in Leeds, so a lot of her work to date has a Yorkshire voice to it. John C. Bryan is a high-school senior and also a student of the Institute of Children's Literature. He's written stories for most of his life, but he only recently began submitting them for publication. In July 2007, the Columbus Dispatch published his non-fiction piece, "Candy Sand Has Few Folks Lining Up," in their weekly column, "First Person." This story, "The Incredible Horseback Ride," was originally written as one of the assignments for the ICL course.

Meera Desai Shah was born, raised, and educated in India. She believes in the empowerment of children and lives by the adages: ‘You can take a horse to water, but can't make him drink it’; and, ‘If you make the bed, you sleep in it.’ Despite being fiercely independent, Meera is learning to go with the flow. Megan Hansen works for a publisher of environmental books. She previously worked for a conservation organization, as a Park Ranger in Montana, and a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. She spent 9 summers teaching at a summer camp, which inspired her to write adventure, nature, and world culture children’s literature.

Nancy Craddock retired this past June after many wonderful years of teaching gifted students in an elementary school on the outskirts of Atlanta. Her writing has appeared in The Children’s Magazine and O’Georgia, A Collection of Georgia’s Newest and Most Promising Writers. Recently, Nancy had an art prompt appear in Highlights for Children and three nonfiction articles accepted for publication by Hopscotch for Girls. Sandra Muncaster (also known as Sandie Lee) lives in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada, with her husband and three cats. She stumbled into writing purely by accident. It all started with someone betting her that she couldn't write a children's story. Sandra took the bet and wrote her first story. It wasn't the best, but she was hooked. That was ten years ago. Tiffany Daniels has always had an overactive imagination. This was why she chose to become a teacher. A rare occupation where having this kind of imagination was a good thing.
