Penny put on her princess costume. She put on a mask and ran to the mirror. Penny jumped.
“Blaaaaaaaaah! I’m the scary princess from the dragon forest. Look out Jingo. I’m going to eat you up.”
“It’s time to go trick…Ahhhhhh!” A spider fell out of Mom’s purse. “Who put this thing in my purse?” Mom held her head and breathed deeply. A toy spider lay on the other side of the room.
Penny ran into the room. “Not me!” She grabbed her trick or treat bag. “Jingo did it!” Penny ran out onto the porch. “Hurry let’s go!”
They went up and down the street. Penny and Jingo gathered candy bars, bubble gum, lollipops, jawbreakers, Tootsie Rolls, and licorice. They arrived at her Mom’s friend’s house. The moms started talking. They talked a long time. “C’mon Mom, I want to go. I want to go.”
“In a few minutes.” Mom held her hand up.
Penny’s brother Joe leaned on the fence talking with his friend.
Penny paced the sidewalk. “Jingo, we’ve been here all night.” She picked up a rock and splashed it into a puddle. Penny picked up another rock and threw it at the fence.
Something rammed the fence. “Ruff, ruff, ruff, ruff,” that something growled.
Joe and his friend leaped into the air. “Yowl! A monster!” Joe ran into the street. His friend ran into the house.
“Roscoe quiet! Go lie down. You scared us.” Mom’s friend went into the backyard.
“Nice one.” Joe poked Penny.
Penny held her hand over her mouth. “Not me!” She giggled. “Jingo did it!”
Penny and Jingo skipped down the street and saw their neighbor, Rachel. Penny and Jingo hid in a bush. Rachel walked by and… “Boo, Rrrrr!” Penny waved her arms back and forth.

Rachel jumped. Her bag flew into the air and landed in a puddle.
“What happened? Rachel’s crying,” said Penny’s sister, Claire.
“Not me!” Penny tugged at her candy. “Jingo did it”
“Well, Jingo better help Rachel up.” Claire crossed her arms and walked away.
Penny helped Rachel up.
“My candy! It’s all wet.” Rachel’s head hung low.
Penny looked up. “Sorry. You can have mine.” She held out her bag.
Rachel wiped her eye and smiled. “I know, let’s split it and Jingo can have some too!”
Penny and Rachel divided up the candy.
“Happy Halloween Jingo!”
