Rory the Spaceship
By: Michele Sykes
“Good night, Sweet Pea,” said Mommy as she tucked Rory into bed. “Sweet dreams!”
Rory wasn’t sleepy. He tossed and turned and stared at the glow-in-the-dark stars on his ceiling.
I wish there was something to do at night instead of sleeping! thought Rory.
Suddenly, he felt himself floating in the air. He looked down at his arms and realized they were the wings of a spaceship. His legs were the bottom and his head was the tip of the ship!
“Wow, this is so cool!” Rory laughed. He zoomed around in the sky and watched his house become a tiny speck in the distance. Soon he couldn’t see the park or anything! Then he looked up.
He was in the middle of a galaxy full of sparkly white stars. They glittered and giggled and called, “Rory, come play with us!” He swooped in between them, spun around, and played tag with the little stars, Glitter and Shimmer.
All his travels made him thirsty. He asked the stars what to do.
“Easy,” they said, handing him a straw. Rory put the straw into one of the stars and tasted milk.

“Yummy!” he said.
“You think THAT’S yummy, you should check out the galaxy beside us,” said Glitter, the littlest star. “It’s a chocolate milky way galaxy.”
Rory flew between the two galaxies, Milky Way and Chocolate Way, drinking to his heart’s content. But as every little spaceship knows, when you have milk to drink, you need...cookies!
Shimmer flew closer to Rory, “Just fly upside down and the Milky Way will become Cookie Crumb Way.” Sure enough, Rory found lots of different cookies to munch on: jam in the middle, chocolate on one side, and chocolate chip cookies.
Eating that much made Rory a little bit sleepy so he cuddled up beside Shimmer and Glitter for a tiny cat nap.
Suddenly, Mommy shook him awake. “Good morning, Love. Did you have a good sleep? Rory...your face is full of chocolate! How did that happen?”
Rory just looked up at the stars on the ceiling and winked.
