Pink!

By: Shelly Faith Nicholson

Rosie Posey loved the color PINK! She loved pink lemonade and pink bubbly bubblegum. She loved pink toenail polish to match her squeaky pink flip flops. Sometimes Rosie Posey wore a pink wig with pink hair ribbons for playing dress-up. And on Sundays, Rosie Posey wore a pink dress with big pink buttons.

Rosie Posey wished everything could be PINK!

One day Rosie Posey was in the garden picking pink flowers. All of a sudden, a little fairy poked its head out of a rhododendron bush.

The fairy startled Rosie Posey.

“Who are you?” Rosie Posey asked.

The fairy was just as startled. She hid her eyes behind her hands. “I am Petal, the flower fairy. Please don’t swat me.”

“I won’t swat you,” Rosie Posey said with a giggle.

“In that case,” said Petal, uncovering her eyes, “I am going to grant you one wish!”

“I wish that everything I touch turns to the color PINK!” Rosie Posey exclaimed.

“Are you sure?” asked Petal.

“I’m sure!” said Rosie Posey.

“Your wish has been granted,” said Petal.

“Rosie Posey!" Mommy called. "Time for dinner!"

Rosie Posey ran to the front door and turned the knob. The big red door instantly turned pink!

Rosie Posey gave Mommy a hug, and Mommy turned bright pink! Rosie Posey’s silverware turned pink. Her cup turned pink. Her spaghetti and meatballs turned pink. Even Rosie Posey’s baby brother Rudy Tooty turned pink!

Rudy Tooty cried, “Me don’t like pink!” Even Rudy Tooty’s tears were pink.

Rosie Posey hurried back to the garden and called, “Petal, Petal, where are you?”

“What’s wrong, Rosie Posey?” Petal asked, as she peeked around a lilac bush.

“I’ve changed my mind. I don’t want everything to be the color pink.”

“Why not?” asked Petal.

“I like the color pink,” Rosie Posey explained. “But blue, yellow, green, and orange are beautiful colors too. When everything is pink, the world is very boring.”

Petal smiled. “I agree. If we didn’t have so many colors, this garden wouldn’t be so lovely. I love pink roses, but I also love the yellow, red and white ones!”

Rosie Posey giggled. “Lilacs wouldn’t be called lilacs if they were pink. They’d be called ‘pinks’!”

Petal giggled too. Then she granted one more wish to Rosie Posey.

“I wish EVERYTHING would turn back to its original color,” Rosie Posey wished.

And everything did.
